Anatomical Jar

£41.00

These earthenware jars are cast from ordinary storage jars whose seals have disintegrated through use. I was interested in the fact that when cast they were reminiscent of the jars used to store scientific samples.

I decided to use this association to embellish them with my own anatomical drawings of the human body.

My work often begins with the use of a found object such as plastic bottles and jars which are perceived as having little worth or aesthetic value, these objects are then transformed through the process of casting, shaping, firing and sanding.

Bodies of work include hand drawn images of insects on bottles and anatomical images on jars exploring the idea of collecting and ownership.

Recently I have begun to produce more sculptural pieces such as ‘All Good Things Come in Threes’, decorated with questions that ask the viewer to perform an action, questioning whether the pieces are performance art, sculpture or the interior decoration normally limited to ceramics.
