Inspirational talks to kick-off new ideas for DE09
Designed & Made are proud to announce our series of talks as part of our proposed Design Event exhibition 50/50. The focus will be on small batch production. It will showcase innovative new work by ten regional designer makers. Each artist will develop and exhibit one new product in a small batch of five. Each product will retail at £50 or under and there will be fifty pieces exhibited altogether. There will be bursaries available to develop new work for ten regional designer makers, including two that will be open to undergraduates who are based in the region.
The aim is to present a forward thinking, design-led exhibition that brings together an exciting range of products through a collective exchange of ideas, processes and materials.
Designed & Made would like to invite you to two half-day sessions at Designed & Made Gallery from which you will then be invited to propose new products inspired by the themes discussed. Proposals will go before a selection panel, and those selected will be allocated bursaries to manufacture their designs for exhibition at Design Mart, which is being held at the Baltic as part of Design Event 09.
The sessions are as follows, and interested designer-makers will be expected to attend both sessions.
Wednesday 27th May 12.00 - 4.00pm Marion Gillet
Thursday 28th May 12.00 - 4.00pm Lauren Moriarty
Each session will begin at 12pm with a talk from the guest speaker, followed by a light lunch and then informal debate and discussion surrounding the themes raised.
Should you wish to attend these events, please RSVP to info@designedandmade.co.uk by Friday 22nd May.
Non-members are welcome to attend the talks with a view to applying for membership, should they wish to submit a proposal.
