Associates

Associates will be supported, nurtured and promoted by Designed & Made. Our policy is to promote the highest standards of workmanship, creativity and excellence in the Northern designer-maker community.

Associate-status is thus selective, and restricted to designer/makers/artists living and working in Northern England.

Applicants must fill in the general application form and submit images for consideration. The selection panel meets monthly and consists of our Board.

Our selection criteria are as follows:

  • Do you have an excellent knowledge of materials?
  • Do you demonstrate exceptional skill in making or designing?
  • Do you produce work of the highest quality?
  • Do you show originality?
  • Do you have a strong identity and personal voice?
  • Do you produce contemporary craft work/design/applied art that is cutting edge and ensures the highest standard of workmanship?
  • Do you produce work that does not seek to reproduce or restore but is rather innovative in its use of materials and aesthetic visions?
  • Do you produce work that not only reflects their individual signature, but also demonstrates investigation of processes and critical enquiry?

Associates benefit from:

  • A full profile and gallery on our website
  • Association with an organisation known for supporting and presenting the best of Northern Craft and Design
  • Regular newsletters packed with opportunities and news from many diverse sources
  • Invited and open opportunities to apply for commissions and supported product development
  • A profile in our portfolio when we are brokering commissions
  • Networking and professional practice events
  • Permission to use the Designed & Made logo on own publicity

Associates must agree to interact with us as much as possible sending us press releases and updates about new work and exhibitions that you are taking part in.

Designed & Made will promote your news on our website and beyond.

Designed & Made is an artist-led organisation, and it is anticipated that Associates will want to contribute to its development and share experiences which will benefit their professional colleagues.
